The Progression of lost and known is loosely based on a painting of Salvador Dali which he painted in 1946, called “The temptation of Saint Anthony” (La Temptation de Saint Antoine). The intercession between heaven and earth is symbolized in his painting by elephants with elongated, spindly legs. The saint is tempted by power, represented by the horse, and by the flesh, illustrated by the naked female torso and the phallic tower. |
